Sometimes a special photo needs a special frame design. While every custom frame is chosen to suit the artwork it holds, there are endless additional design elements you can incorporate. If you feel like you can’t come up with an extraordinary idea on your own, try asking your framer “What would you do with this picture if it was your own?”, or “How would you frame this photo if you could do anything you wanted with it?”
Here is a standard black and white combination on a pair of adorable baby snapshots:
Nothing wrong with that, but warmer colors might look better:
Cute! But what would happen you asked your framer what she would do if the pictures were her own?
In the Black Lacquer frame above, a pink design (inspired by the motif within the molding) was mechanically drawn onto a shiny black mat with a metallic pink paint pen. Now you know you’re looking at something (someone!) special!
One last idea: This little girl’s mama loves the color pink, so we kept the pen design from above, but changed the frame to pink. What do you think?

Here is a photo that the experts at No Naked Walls! scanned, restored, and re-framed, so it can be enjoyed for another 20 years:
Another beautiful restoration project complete!
In the case of these Van Gogh prints, the customer opted to replace the old, faded prints with new ones (for only $8.00 each!)
If you are lucky enough to find a great portrait photographer, take the time to have your favorite shots enlarged and framed after your session. It’s easy to say “I have the digital files, I can print them later”, but few things are more special, (and worthy of your time and resources) than a quality family portrait. This beautiful example is a newborn portrait by Paula Showen. See more of her outstanding work here: www.paulashowen.com
For this precious portrait, mats were cut with custom decorative corners to enhance the Victorian details of the beads and lace in the image. The narrow pink accent mat was chosen to match the customer’s room, and the soft pink tones of the frame compliment the baby’s rosy skin. Archival Mats, Conservation Glass, and an Acid-free mount board were selected to ensure the photo lasts a lifetime.
We recently had a customer request a mat in the colors of the Belgian Flag. Multi-colored mats aren’t especially common, but for this project, we created one! The final project frames a photo of the customer’s friend, along with a set of three dimensional paratrooper wings that are visible in the photo. Silver accents in the frame and mat serve to further highlight the wings. Your custom framers at No Naked Walls! love a challenge!
